Jefferson Avenue footbridge nears completion in Springfield

Crews in Springfield, Missouri installed the final middle section of the Jefferson Avenue Footbridge this week, completing the last major lift over the BNSF Railway rail yard. Contractors will next finish painting, testing, and deck installation, followed by construction of stairs and elevators at the north and south access points. The rehabilitated bridge is expected to reopen in spring, with a public celebration planned in connection with the National Route 66 Centennial Kickoff and America’s 250th anniversary.
